Bellagio

Bellagio really feels like the heart of Lake Como. The place is almost too picturesque, with cobblestone streets and views that pop up around every corner. It sits right where the two arms of the lake come together. Honestly, it’s a bit quieter than you’d expect for somewhere so famous. Compared to other towns, there’s just more space to breathe.

Bellano

If you want a break from the crowds, Bellano is your spot. It’s up on the east side, just north of Varenna, and most tourists skip it. The pedestrian streets are peaceful and perfect for wandering without any hurry. You won’t find big crowds here, just a laid-back vibe and easygoing locals.

Colico

Colico sits way up at the top of the lake, and it’s got its own rugged style. From up high, you get sweeping views of the water below that feel totally different from the southern end. Colico isn’t the prettiest town around, but honestly, the views from up here are worth the trip.

Como

Como is the big, bustling hub at the bottom of the lake. There’s a mix of old architecture, buzzing piazzas, and plenty of cafes for people-watching. It feels elegant but never intimidating, and it’s a solid base if you want to explore more of the area. You get a little bit of everything here—history, style, and a friendly crowd.

Griante

Griante is tiny but sits up on the western plateau, with some of the best views you’ll find anywhere on the lake. It’s one of those places that surprises you—quiet, scenic, and perfect for photos. Even if you’re just passing through, stop and soak it in for a while.

Lecco

Down at the southeast end, Lecco is all about that cozy, lived-in atmosphere. The lakeside promenade is perfect for a stroll, and the mountains rise up right behind the town, making everything feel tucked in and dramatic. It’s got about 25,000 people, but it still feels friendly and small.

Menaggio

Menaggio has that classic lakeside elegance but keeps things relaxed. It sits on the western shore and gets its share of tourists, but usually not as many as Bellagio or Varenna. There’s a youth hostel here that fills up fast on weekends, so book ahead if you want to stay. It’s a good spot if you want the lake without the big crowds.

Nesso

Nesso is easy to miss, but that’s half the fun. It’s a tiny village tucked between Bellagio and Como, hidden away on the western leg of the lake. The dramatic gorge and waterfalls steal the show. If you stumble into Nesso, it feels like you’ve found a secret.

Tremezzo

Tremezzo is known for its grand villas and peaceful lakeside walks. Villa Carlotta is the big draw, with its lush gardens and lakeside views. The town itself sits across the water from Bellagio, and it’s just a beautiful, relaxing place to spend an afternoon.

Varenna

Varenna is pure romance, with pastel houses and narrow lanes snaking down to the water. It’s on the east side, across from Bellagio and Menaggio. The villas—like Cipressi and Monastero—have gardens that are perfect for a slow walk. If you want to just wander and soak up the atmosphere, this is your place.
